openHPI: How to register?
Before you can take part in an openHPI course, you need to register for the platform. Open the registration form . Name and email adress are required. We ask for the email adress twice to catch errors. We kindly ask you to also provide us with information about your professional backgroup and geographical location. If you mark the checkbox for the current course, you will be automatically enrolled to it.
We send you an email with a confirmation link. When you open this link, you see the following form for setting your password.
Now you are immediately logged into the platform. You log out through the "Logout" entry in the top navigation.
Course: How to join?
Navigate to the course list and scroll to the course your are interested in. Click on any of the image, the title or the "More information" button, and you will be redirected to the course information page.
If you are logged into the platform, you will se a button "Enroll", which will lead you directly to the lecture sequence if the course has already started. If the course has already been started, the buttion will be labeled "Self study".
Course materials: How to navigate?
Inside the lecture sequence you have a horizontal and a vertical menu. The vertical menu lets you navigate back to past weeks. It also gives and highlights each week's most important elements.
The horizontal menu lets you walk through each week's sequence of videos and self-tests.
Self-tests: How to do?
There is no time limit on self-tests and they can be taken any number of times you like. Following the "My Progress" link, you can always verify the aggregate of your results in the self-tests.
Discussions: How to participate?
Every student enrolled in a course can create new discussion topics. If you follow the "Discussions" link from the top navigation, you will see and can create general course-related topics. For every week, there is a specific list of topics (linked from the vertical menu), where questions related to the content of the week can be discussed. From the topics list, the right sidebar lets you change between general and weekly discussions. Additionally, teachers can categorize discussions.
The discussions list shows title, author, date, number of replies.
From the full thread view, you can write replies and add side comments to replies.
Homework: How to submit?
When starting the homework, be aware that you only have a limited amount of time to complete it. As it is not possible to stop the homework and restart it later, it must be completed in one sitting.
